Archive note: Aurek SDI; More commonly referred to as 'Listening Post Aurek' was founded in the solar year 2508, by the Imperial Reclamation Corps, primary subsidiary of the [redacted]; a group founded to pursue the Imperium's interests. Positioned within the August - Asteria Gap, a so called 'Dark spot' within Imperial and Civilian entity tracking systems, the location now home to the Aurek scanning array is ideal to track elements of sector traffic seeking to evade detection, most notably commodity smugglers and insurrectionist forces. Data attained via the array is discretely leaked into regular Imperial knowledge via [redacted], in order to maintain the operational independence and discretion required by Imperial Intelligence operatives.

Archive note: The geographical disposition of Aurek mandates an unusually high construction cost as compared to more typical installations, particularly with regards to thermal tolerances. Whilst the surface of Aurek is a permanent arctic tundra, the planet itself is a maelstrom of geothermal activity, whilst rare, direct vents onto the surface of extreme geothermal energy, including lava pools, are not unheard of. Aurek itself is positioned around one such vent, used to power the base in its initial years of service, and continues to run ancillary systems a half century later.

Archive note: Whilst this is undoubtedly a useful byproduct, the extreme activity of the planet consistently subjects building materials to both extreme ends of the thermal spectrum, degrading the material, ultimately reducing its lifespan significantly. Fortunately, in the [redacted], significant advances within the field of metallurgy alloys were made, with particular focus on thermal and shock tolerance, ideal for the difficult terrain requirements of Aurek. With the delivery of significant quantities of this alloy, construction followed the design specifications outlined within the Reclamation Corps STC (Standard Template Construct) for a Listening Array, with little initial deviation.

Archive note: However, it would not take long for the facility to receive an extensive retrofit following the discovery of the native mineral, 'Metacite'. After this discovery in the solar year 2511, massive excavations were called for in order to accommodate the construction of a larger, state of the art facility beneath the Listening Array, which continues its lonely vigil diligently.
